In 2020, boxing is no longer fought by humans, but they have been replaced by robots. The former boxer Charlie Kenton drives his truck to promote fights with his robot Ambush. When he has just lost a fight, he is summoned to a hearing and forced to take care of his unknown eleven year-old son Max Kenton since his mother has passed away. Charlie loses another fight with the Noisy Boy robot that his girlfriend Bailey Tallet has just bought and he goes with Max to a junkyard to collect parts of robots to build a new one. However, Max finds an old sparring robot named Atom and Charlie teaches him how to box. Atom becomes a winner and Max and Charlie become closer to each other. In the not too distant future, where humans no longer step in the ring, the fighting is left to robots, where there controlled outside the ring. Charlie(Hugh Jackman) who once had a promising career as a boxer, now takes a robot to certain gigs, in hopes to make extra cash. But his prize robot is destroyed in a match, to add to his troubles, he temporally gains custody of his son named Max(Dakoda Goyo) Max persuades Charlie to take him along, Charlie agrees. They both go to a junk yard, in hopes to put together a fighting robot. Max finds a rusty old robot, they both bring it back, clean it off, and give it name ATOM. Max wants to get him a fight, but Charlie tells him that it's not a fighting robot, it's just sparring partner. But Charlie and Max train it anyway, will this underdog triumph?
An entertaining film, Hugh Jackman gives a pretty descent performance, not Oscar worthy, but good. So does Dakoda Goyo, he and Jackman play off each other perfectly. The robot Atom becomes an interesting character to watch also. All the other robots are also cool too. The robot fight scenes are also memorable. This is a cool film to watch, if you are into this kind of thing, then check it out.
